Basketball Season Launch 2025

Basketball Season Launch 2025

Tuesday night marked a special occasion at Rosmini College as the school hosted its first-ever Basketball Season Launch, a milestone event celebrating the proud past, vibrant present, and ambitious future of the Rosmini basketball programme.

The evening provided a platform for Teacher in Charge of Basketball, Ambrose Samuels, and Director of Basketball, Sonny Tuaputa, to speak about the growth and development of basketball at the school. They shared insights into Rosmini’s basketball philosophy, highlighting the values that underpin the programme, as well as exciting future plans for expanding and improving the experience for players and supporters alike.

A key theme of the night was sustainability. Ambrose and Sonny acknowledged the significant financial commitment required to run a high-level school basketball programme. They outlined various opportunities for the community to get involved and help keep the programme thriving, including memberships, sponsorships, grant funding, and a calendar raffle fundraiser—all aimed at helping teams self-fund while keeping the programme accessible for all.

It was a privilege to welcome back several Rosmini Old Boys, including Charlie Dalton, Will Heather, Julius Halaifonua, Tom Beattie, Theo Johnson, and Clarke Hughes. Their presence added a strong sense of tradition and pride to the event. In a particularly memorable moment, these alumni took the stage to present the 2025 Premier team with their jerseys, symbolising the passing of the torch to the next generation of Rosmini basketballers.

It was also great to see the return of parents of former players, reconnecting with the Rosmini Basketball community, and solidifying the community aspect and value that they felt the program gave to their sons in the time that they were part of it.

The evening also had its lighter moments, with fun icebreaker activities and prizes, energising the crowd and especially the younger players who showed their enthusiasm and confidence by participating in front of the audience and a chance for Charlie ‘Chaz’ Dalton to display his abilities as an MC and Quizmaster!

A fantastic supper was generously provided by the Premier mums, fueling conversations and connections during the post-event mix and mingle session. The sense of community was palpable, with families, players, and supporters engaging in a warm and welcoming environment. We look forward to future events where all members of our community can get together to share our success and look forward to the future.
