AI Hackathon kicks off at Rosmini

Day 1 of the inaugural Rosmini College AI Hackathon is officially in the books! The auditorium was buzzing with the sound of students collaborating, debating ideas, sketching out solution maps on whiteboards, and mapping out their projects.

This hackathon is about much more than just writing code. Our goal is to blend technical execution with vital soft skills like collaboration, communication, and critical thinking. By tackling real-world problems, our students are building the ultimate toolkit to thrive in life after school.

Our teams are focusing on four core themes that reflect our values: TOTCUS (environmental action and sustainability), Serve (faith, community service, and social justice), The Rosmini Brotherhood (strengthening our broader school community), and Making Good Money (developing ethical tech business products).

An event like this takes a village, and we are grateful to everyone who poured their time and expertise into our students. A big thank you to our theme speakers for setting the stage and inspiring the boys. We also appreciate Simon McCallum from Victoria University of Wellington for delivering an insights-packed Zoom workshop to sharpen the boys' technical focus.

Finally, a shoutout to our incredible mentors. Having a mix of industry professionals and our own recently graduated Old Boys to guide, question, and challenge the teams' ideas was invaluable. We can’t thank you enough for giving up your time to support the next generation.

With Day 1 focused on problem-proofing, ideation, and user journeys, the boys have built a solid foundation. Now we look ahead to Day 2: The Build Sprint. We can’t wait to see these prototypes come to life and watch the final pitches!
