On Friday 24 July, the Rosmini kaiako and ākonga Māori were proud to host our whānau for Matariki Herenga Waka—a special morning dedicated to celebration, connection, and reflection.

The Significance of Matariki

Matariki marks the appearance of the Pleiades star cluster, signaling the start of the Māori New Year. It is a time for:

Reflection: Remembering those who have passed since the last rising of Matariki.

Celebration: Gathering with whānau to share kai and acknowledge the present.

Preparation: Looking ahead to the coming year and planning for the future.

Highlights from the Event

Our whānau gathered bright and early for a memorable morning filled with warmth, delicious kai, and lively whanaungatanga. Highlights included a friendly yet competitive game of Kahoot that brought out everyone’s community spirit.

We were especially privileged to welcome our keynote speaker, Pani Paora Chamberlin, who shared fascinating insights into the local history of Takapuna and the surrounding ancestral landmarks, offering our community a deeper connection to the land we stand on today.

This was followed at lunchtime by a traditional hāngī prepared for students, where the spirit of manaakitanga brought staff and ākonga together over a shared kai.
