Our Italian students shared their heritage and culinary expertise with homestay caregivers, parents, and agents at an authentic Italian cooking class

Our International community enjoyed a wonderful culinary experience this week at our "Taste of Italy" Caregiver Morning Tea, where homestay caregivers, parents, and agents gathered for an authentic Italian cooking class.

The highlight of the event was a live cooking demonstration by two of our Italian students, Andrea Picolli and Noah Zamattio, who generously shared their heritage and culinary expertise with us. Stepping into the role of master chefs, the boys walked attendees through the steps of crafting a true, traditional Roman Carbonara.

Using only authentic ingredients — egg yolks, rigatoni, and rich guanciale — the student chefs emphassed that true Italian cooking relies on simplicity, quality, and precision. Guests quickly learned that achieving the perfect dish requires strictly following the chefs' golden rules, especially knowing the exact moment to salt the pasta water and precisely when to combine the hot rigatoni with the egg mixture to create a silky sauce without scrambling.

We were also delighted to have Headmaster Nixon Cooper and several teachers pop in to join the event, taking a break from their morning to support the boys and taste the delicious results!

The excitement continued as attendees put their culinary knowledge to the test in our event competition. Our student chefs took on the responsibility of judging the entries and selecting the top contenders. After careful deliberation, they officially crowned two winning teams:

Both teams impressed our chefs with their sharp attention to detail, proving they paid close attention to the golden rules of authentic Carbonara preparation.

The morning was a fantastic success, filled with great conversation, delicious food, and a shared appreciation for international culture.
