Rosmini College marked the week with a range of events celebrating Māori language and culture

Rosmini College marked Te Wiki o te Reo Māori this week with a range of  events celebrating Māori language and culture.

Form classes began each day with daily karakia in te reo Māori, while students presented te reo phrases to staff during their meetings. Staff also enjoyed visiting the café to order kawhe in te reo Māori and share a kōrero over scones and pulled pork sliders.

On Wednesday students were welcome to attend Māori mihi, and Thursday’s Writers Club focused on Māori literature and the role of storytelling in identity within Te Ao Māori. Students also participated in the Karakia a Kura school prayer challenge, with winners to be announced shortly.

Active celebrations included a lunchtime game of Kī-o-Rahi and the House Haka competition. Organised by Tū Rangatira Kane Te Whiu, the haka initiative involved every student learning and performing the school haka to honour Rosmini's heritage. Well done to Liston for the winning haka!
