The annual Senior Sports Awards celebrate the dedication and achievements of our senior athletes
On 28 October, Rosmini College held its annual Senior Sports Awards, celebrating the dedication and achievements of senior athletes. Themed "Honouring everybody who wore the Crest on their Chest," the event featured a retrospective slideshow highlighting the school’s sporting journey since 1963.
Sports Captain Hunter Johns kicked off the evening with a moving address on his personal growth, love for college sports, and overcoming recent challenges.
Beyond individual trophies, the evening recognised everyone who represented the College, as well as the coaches, managers, volunteers, sponsors, medical staff, groundskeeping crew, and parents whose early mornings and constant support make Rosmini sport possible.
The four main awards of the night went to:
Sporting Performance of the Year – U13A Football team – in a first for Rosmini College, they were crowned Auckland Knockout Cup Champions.
Sports Team of the Year – 1st XV Rugby team – after a show stopping season, winning 14 of 16 games by great margins and narrowly missing the win on the remaining two.
Junior Sportsman of the Year – Reggie Allen (Year 10), recognised after being named Junior Basketball Premier Player of the Year, alongside making a huge impact stepping up into the Senior Premier Basketball side this season. On the national stage, he earned selection for the New Zealand U15 Basketball Team.
Sportsman of the Year – Luchian Opperman, recognised for his dominance on the rugby field, serving as Lock and Vice Captain for the 1st XV. He was named the Sky Sports Man of the Match in their clash against Westlake Boys and was also awarded the Avago Trophy for Rosmini 1st XV MVP. At a national level, Luchian earned selection for the New Zealand Secondary Schools U18 squad — making the final 23-man matchday team against Australia U18s — as well as the North Harbour U18 Cardinal side.
The Sporting Excellence Awards are presented to individuals for sporting excellence in their respective sport. The criteria for the School Sporting Excellence awards is National Honours. We have the great privilege of congratulating the following athletes:
